Jammu, 17th Sept. The area around Sher-e-Kashmir Park in Srinagar has been placed under a comprehensive security blanket in preparation for Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s upcoming election rally scheduled for Wednesday. This will be Modi’s first rally for BJP candidates in Kashmir ahead of the assembly elections in the Union Territory later this month.
Inspector General of Police (IGP) V K Birdi announced the deployment of a multi-tier security arrangement for the high-profile visit, adhering to the Standard Operating Procedures for such events. “We have made adequate arrangements to ensure the event runs smoothly,” Birdi said on Tuesday.
Located within a kilometer of the iconic Lal Chowk clock tower, the venue has seen heightened security measures. Police and paramilitary forces have intensified vehicle checks at numerous locations and established special checkpoints to manage security effectively. Increased patrols are also being conducted around the venue as part of an area domination exercise.
The police are issuing regular travel advisories to minimize inconvenience to the public and ensure the safety of the event. This visit will mark Prime Minister Modi’s third trip to the Kashmir valley this year, following a rally at Bakshi Stadium on March 7 and his participation in International Yoga Day at SKICC on June 21.
