New Delhi, 30th Sept. Mithun Chakraborty is set to be honored with the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award. This announcement was made by Union Minister for Railways, Information and Broadcasting, Electronics, and IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, on social media. He stated that the legendary actor would receive this distinguished award for his remarkable cinematic journey and contributions to Indian cinema.
At 74, Mithun Chakraborty boasts a successful career spanning 48 years in Hindi cinema and remains active in films. Ashwini Vaishnaw expressed pride in the announcement, saying, “Mithun Da’s extraordinary cinematic journey inspires generations! It is an honor to announce that the Dadasaheb Phalke Selection Jury has decided to award veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty for his significant contributions to Indian cinema.”
The award will be presented during the 70th National Film Awards ceremony, scheduled for October 8, 2024. Mithun’s journey from the streets of Kolkata to becoming Bollywood’s Disco Dancer has not been easy, as he faced numerous challenges to reach the heights of cinema. The news of Mithun receiving the Dadasaheb Phalke Award comes just a few months after he was honored with the Padma Bhushan, an accolade he received from President Droupadi Murmu in April.
Career Highlights:
Mithun Chakraborty began his acting career in 1976 with a small role in the film Do Anjaane, but gained recognition as a lead actor in 1977. He received a National Award for his debut film Mrigaya, making him one of the few stars to achieve such recognition with their first film. His 1982 release Disco Dancer catapulted him to fame, achieving remarkable success in Asia, the Soviet Union, Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Turkey, and Africa.
In recent years, Mithun has appeared in films such as Oh My God. His illustrious career includes hits like Agneepath, Mujhe Insaaf Chahiye, Hum Se Hai Zamana, Pasand Apni Apni, Ghar Ek Mandir, and Kasam Paida Karne Wale Ki.
