Manoj Shrivastava Assumes Role as MP State Election Commissioner

Bhopal, 2nd Jan. Retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer Manoj Kumar Shrivastava has officially taken charge as the State Election Commissioner (SEC) of Madhya Pradesh. He succeeds V.P. Singh, whose tenure concluded on December 31, 2024.

Upon assuming office, Shrivastava convened a meeting with commission officials to familiarize himself with the commission’s operations. Secretary of the State Election Commission, Abhishek Singh, provided an overview of the innovative measures being implemented in local body elections. Deputy Secretary Manoj Malviya and other officials were also present during the meeting.

Shrivastava, a 1987-batch IAS officer, retired in April 2021 as the Additional Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh’s Panchayati Raj and Rural Development Department. Throughout his career, he has held various significant positions, including serving as the District Collector of Indore and as the Commissioner of the Department of Public Relations in the Madhya Pradesh government. His appointment as SEC is for a term of six years or until he reaches the age of 66, whichever comes first.

Prior to this appointment, Shrivastava was a member of the Madhya Pradesh Administrative Unit Reorganization Commission, established to reassess the number and boundaries of districts and divisions within the state. He resigned from this position to take on his new role as the State Election Commissioner.

The State Election Commission is responsible for overseeing elections to local bodies, including municipalities and panchayats, ensuring the conduct of free and fair elections across the state. Under Shrivastava’s leadership, the commission is expected to continue its efforts in enhancing the electoral process through various innovations and reforms.
