Imphal— The Manipur Police and paramilitary forces, in a joint operation that was a resounding success, neutralized three Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) and recovered a large stock of firearms from the far-flung hills of Churachandpur and Kakching districts. The operation was carried out over the last 24 hours, and it thwarted likely terror attacks in the area.*.

The joint operation, according to the officials, concentrated on regions bordering Wangoo Laipham Awang Chingya and Warukok Hill ranges within the jurisdiction of Wangoo Police Station in Kakching District on the border with Churachandpur. The regions, which were regarded as strategically sensitive, had previously been recognized as possible hotbeds of militancy.
The security agencies defused and destroyed the IEDs, which had been planted in various strategic locations throughout the region. Not only did this neutralize the threat but also hugely reduced the risk of violence in a region that has experienced intermittent unrest in recent times.
The seized explosives were one green IED of about 2 kg, one red IED of about 1 kg, and one black IED of about 1.5 kg. Along with these, police also seized an assortment of high-explosive hand grenades, such as three 36 mm hand grenades, two 80 mm grenades, and two HE hand grenades, all of which could have caused extensive harm when detonated in populated areas.
Other weapons confiscated in the operation were a few firearms like a .303 rifle modified, a revolver, and a single-barrel pistol. The cache contained one SMG carbine without the magazine, as well as live rounds of different types of ammunition. The recovered rounds included 81 live rounds of INSAS rifle ammunition, 10 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, and a number of empty AK rifle and INSAS rifle cases. Besides that, the operation produced five cartridges of 70 mm and one Baofeng handset, usually utilized in communications within insurgent operations.
Multiple grenades and smoke shells were also recovered by the security agents, such as tear gas shells and an anti-riot shell, which served to emphasize the scope of the operation and the deadly materials destined to be utilized to destabilize the region.
The confiscated items have been turned over to the relevant police station for additional investigation, with government forces set to arrest the perpetrators and investigate the source of the explosives and weapons, as well as the target and assailants behind the illegal stockpile.
This action is part of continued efforts by Manipur’s security agencies to thwart insurgent operations and stem the flow of weapons and explosives that drive regional militancy. Although the northeastern state has witnessed decades of insurgency-related violence, the neutralization of these explosives is a major triumph in the war against terrorism.
The officials have appreciated the collaboration between the Manipur Police and the paramilitary forces, applauding the operation as effective in stopping a big crisis. The joint operation has also cemented the dedication of the state and central security personnel to promote peace and security in the most sensitive area of India.
As investigations go on, local authorities have pledged to be on the lookout in their quest to rid the state of illegal weapons and explosives, ensuring that such hazardous materials do not end up in the wrong hands.
