Manipur Govt Transfers 14 Police Officers, Cracks Down on Extortion Racket

Imphal: The Manipur government has transferred 14 police officers, including the Superintendents of Police (SPs) of two districts, according to an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms on Tuesday.

As per the order, Jiribam SP Sheikh Mohammad Zakir has been transferred to Kakching district, while Kakching SP Priyadarshini Laishram will take over as the new SP of Jiribam.

In other changes, Yairipok Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Gaurav Dogra has been posted in Singjamei, while Assistant Commandant of the 1st Manipur Rifles, Abhinav, will take additional charge as the Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) of Kangpokpi. Akoijam Sadananda Singh has been appointed as the new ASP (Traffic) for Imphal East, Kesham Bojoukumar Singh as ASP (Vigilance), and Rattana Nagasekpam as the new ASP of the Crime Investigation Department (CID-SD).

Meanwhile, security forces have arrested three individuals, including a member of the banned militant outfit Kangleipak People’s Revolutionary Party (PREPAK-Pro), on charges of extortion in Kakching and Imphal East districts.

According to the police, the PREPAK-Pro operative was apprehended on Tuesday from Aihang village in Kakching district. Authorities stated that the individual was directly involved in extortion activities in and around Wangu Chairel and Pangaltabi areas.

Additionally, two individuals linked to underground groups involved in vehicle extortion activities in Sekmai, Imphal West, were arrested from Wangkhei, Imphal East, on Monday.

In a separate operation on Tuesday, security forces seized a cache of arms and ammunition from Sajirok, Imphal West. The recovered items included one Self-Loading Rifle (SLR) with a magazine, a single-barrel gun, three 9mm pistols with magazines, ammunition, a hand grenade, four smoke grenades, and other equipment.
