New Delhi, 7th Oct. Maldivian President Mohamed Muizzu received a ceremonial welcome and a guard of honour at the Rashtrapati Bhavan on Monday morning. Accompanied by First Lady Sajidha Mohamed and a Maldivian delegation, Muizzu arrived in India on Sunday evening.

President Droupadi Murmu formally welcomed President Muizzu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi also in attendance. Following the ceremony, President Muizzu paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi by laying a wreath at Rajghat, accompanied by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) emphasized the significance of the visit, noting that it aims to further strengthen the comprehensive partnership between India and the Maldives. Although Muizzu attended Prime Minister Modi’s swearing-in ceremony in June, this marks his first bilateral visit to India as President.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with President Muizzu on Sunday, expressing optimism that the discussions with PM Modi would infuse “new impetus” into the longstanding ties between the two nations. President Muizzu is scheduled to hold talks with Prime Minister Modi at Hyderabad House later today, covering bilateral, regional, and international issues of mutual interest.
