Kanpur, 30th Sept. An alert loco pilot successfully averted a major disaster on Sunday in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, when he spotted a suspicious fire safety cylinder on the tracks just in time. The Pushpak Express, traveling from Mumbai to Lucknow, was arriving at the Govindpuri station when the pilot noticed a fire safety cylinder lying on the tracks during the evening hours.
Thanks to the train’s slow speed, the driver was able to promptly apply the brakes and stop the train before any disaster occurred. Reports indicate that the fire extinguisher found on the track had been issued by the railways, raising concerns about safety protocols. This incident is part of a troubling pattern in Uttar Pradesh, where various objects such as gas cylinders and pillars have been discovered on railway tracks over the past month.
In a related incident on Saturday, the engine of the No. 15054 Express train, en route from Lucknow to Chhapra (Bihar), struck a stone placed on the railway track in the Bairia area of Ballia. The loco pilot managed to apply emergency brakes upon seeing the obstruction.
