New Delhi, 30th Sept. A group of Indian Police Service (IPS) probationers from the 2023 batch of the 76th Regular Recruits (RR) called on the President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu, at Rashtrapati Bhavan today (September 30, 2024).
In her address, President Murmu highlighted the critical importance of the Indian Police Service among the All-India Services. She noted that law and order are the foundation of governance and the modern State, making IPS officers a vital interface between the government and citizens. “In many situations, you will be the face of the State,” she emphasized.
President Murmu stressed the increasing significance of the IPS in India’s future growth, remarking that economic and social development depends on the upholding of the rule of law. “Without law and order, ensuring justice and protecting citizens’ rights, progress becomes meaningless,” she added.
She also expressed her happiness over the rising number of women IPS officers, stating that their increased presence could positively transform policing, improve relations between the police and communities, and benefit the nation.
Touching on the impact of technology, the President acknowledged its advantages for law enforcement, while cautioning that criminals and terrorists also exploit technological advancements. In an era of rising cybercrimes, she urged the officers to remain tech-savvy and vigilant.
Recognizing the challenges IPS officers face, President Murmu advised them to prioritize their mental well-being. She encouraged incorporating Yoga and relaxation techniques into their routines, reminding them that the ‘S’ in IPS stands for service. “Your guiding principle should always be to serve the nation and its citizens,” she concluded.
