Kolkata Police Defend Officer Arrested by CBI in RG Kar Hospital Rape-Murder Case

Published:

Kolkata, 16th Sept. A senior Kolkata Police officer on Monday defended Abhijit Mondal, the officer-in-charge of Tala Police Station, who was arrested by the CBI in connection with the RG Kar hospital rape-murder case. Additional Commissioner of Kolkata Police, V Solomon Nesakumar, met with Mondal’s family and assured them of the department’s full support, stating that Mondal had conducted the initial investigation with transparency.

“We met his family and informed them that the department stands by them like a family and will provide all necessary support,” Nesakumar said.

Mondal was arrested by the CBI on Saturday for allegedly tampering with evidence and delaying the registration of an FIR in the case involving the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee, whose body was discovered in the seminar room of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

Despite the charges, Nesakumar expressed his belief in Mondal’s innocence. “He reached the spot promptly, conducted a transparent investigation, and acted with good intentions in the interest of justice,” he stated.

The CBI, which is investigating the case under a Calcutta High Court order, also arrested Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of the hospital, in connection with the same case. Ghosh was previously arrested for financial irregularities at the medical establishment.
