Thiruvananthapuram, 1st Jan. Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan warmly welcomed Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, the newly appointed Governor of Kerala, upon his arrival at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport on Wednesday evening.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister stated, “Received the newly appointed Governor of Kerala, @rajendraarlekar, at Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. Looking forward to working together in the spirit of Kerala’s progress and unity.”

Arlekar is set to take the oath of office at a ceremony at Rajbhavan on Thursday. Kerala Assembly Speaker A N Shamseer, along with ministers K Rajan and Kadannappally Ramachandran, were present at the airport to welcome the new Governor.

Upon reaching Kerala Rajbhavan, Arlekar was further welcomed by Davendra Kumar Dhodawat, Additional Chief Secretary to the Governor.

The ruling CPI(M) in Kerala expressed hopes that Arlekar would adopt a constitutional approach and work in collaboration with the state government, unlike his predecessor, Arif Mohammed Khan. Khan’s tenure had been marked by tensions with the Left government, particularly over the administration of state universities.

Last week, President Droupadi Murmu appointed Khan as the Governor of Bihar and transferred Arlekar to Kerala.
