Thiruvananthapuram, 4th Feb. In a heartwarming tale of how a simple wish can bring about change, a Kerala boy’s love for biryani has caught the attention of social media users and even the state government. Little Shanku, a young boy from Kerala, expressed his desire for “birnani” (a cute mispronunciation of biryani) and “poricha kozhi” (chicken fry) at his anganwadi, where upma is usually served. His mother recorded the adorable request and shared it on social media, sparking a wave of support from netizens.
Shanku’s viral video reached Kerala’s Minister for Health, Woman, and Child Development, Veena George, who was quick to respond. In a show of warmth and appreciation, the minister assured the public that the anganwadi menu would be reviewed, and biryani could be included in the future. George also praised Shanku’s suggestion and sent her regards to both him and his mother.
In her response, the minister emphasized that the meals provided through anganwadis are designed to be nutritious for children. She highlighted that the Kerala government had already implemented a successful scheme to provide eggs and milk at anganwadis, in collaboration with local bodies. While the primary focus of the food served is on nutrition, George mentioned that Shanku’s request would certainly be taken into consideration.
Shanku’s viral plea has already touched hearts far and wide. His mother shared that several people have reached out offering to treat Shanku to biryani and chicken fry. With his playful yet determined request, Shanku has won not just the hearts of the public, but also possibly changed the anganwadi menu for future generations of children in Kerala.
