New Delhi: External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar will represent India at the swearing-in ceremony of US President-elect Donald Trump, set to take place on January 20. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that Jaishankar will attend the ceremony at the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee.

In addition to participating in the ceremonial event, Jaishankar is expected to engage with members of the incoming administration and dignitaries from around the world who are gathering in Washington, DC, for the historic occasion.

“On the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar will represent the Government of India at the Swearing-In Ceremony of President-Elect Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States of America,” the MEA said in an official press release.

The swearing-in ceremony marks Trump’s return to the White House following his certified victory in the 2024 US presidential election. On January 6, Congress formally certified the electoral college results, confirming Trump’s 312 electoral votes against Vice President Kamala Harris’s 226. This certification finalizes the election process, paving the way for Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance to assume office.

Notably, the certification process was presided over by Kamala Harris, who also received bipartisan applause from lawmakers in the House Chamber after announcing the results. The session, which lasted around 30 minutes, saw participation from prominent lawmakers, including Senator Amy Klobuchar, Senator Deb Fischer, Representative Bryan Steil, and Representative Joe Morelle, who assisted in the official counting of electoral votes.

The event is expected to draw high-profile leaders and dignitaries from across the globe, underscoring its significance on the world stage.

This visit highlights India’s continued commitment to strengthening bilateral ties with the United States, as the two nations look forward to deepening cooperation under Trump’s renewed presidency.
