Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) comprehensively by eight wickets at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow with 22 balls to spare. After losing the match, LSG mentor Zaheer Khan said that it looked like the pitch was prepared by the PBKS curator.
At the press conference, Zaheer said: “Considering it’s a home game and in IPL you’ve seen how teams have looked at taking a little bit of home advantage, from that point of view you’ve seen the curator is not really thinking that it’s a home game. I think maybe it looked like, you know, it was Punjab curator out here.”
“So that’s something which we will figure. It’s a new set-up also for me, but I hope that this is the first and the last game when it comes to that. Because you are disappointing the Lucknow fans as well. They’ve come up with so much expectations of winning the first home game here,” he further added.

Rishabh Pant, the captain, also mentioned that they expected a slower pitch. When the LSG skipper was asked about the move of using three spinners in the powerplay, Pant said: “The idea was to get a slower wicket. We felt it’s a home game, it’s going to stop a little bit. I think the slower ones, when bowled into the wicket, were still sticking in but we weren’t good enough on the day. We have got to learn and move forward. It is our first home game. Still assessing the conditions.”
However, this is not the first time a team has been unhappy with pitch conditions. KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane also emphasised the need for home advantage, and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) coach Stephen Fleming similarly expressed dissatisfaction with pitch preparation after their loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in Chennai.
