New Delhi, 27th Sept. Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Friday that the number of women in India’s labour force has doubled in the past seven years, with women in some sectors now working more hours than men. Mandaviya credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s policies for this significant shift, describing it as a “silent revolution” led by women in India’s workforce.
In a government press release, Mandaviya stated, “India’s workforce is now witnessing what no one expected… Women are leading the charge, taking on greater responsibilities and breaking barriers like never before!” He highlighted the substantial increase in women’s labor force participation in recent data.
The Union Minister attributed this shift to policies such as Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana, Stand-Up India, and Skill India, calling them “tectonic policy shifts” that have placed women at the forefront of India’s economic growth. “These aren’t token policies but key drivers of change in how we view women’s contributions,” Mandaviya added.
BJP leader Smriti Irani also emphasized the increasing number of hours women are putting in, particularly in high-demand fields such as professional, scientific, and technical activities. “Women are working more hours than ever, with some clocking over 55 hours a week, surpassing men in several sectors,” Irani said.
Irani further called on businesses, industries, and society to recognize the sacrifices made by women, urging that this “silent revolution” be acknowledged and supported. “Prime Minister Modi has set the stage, but now it’s time for everyone to embrace and support the sacrifices women are making,” she said.
