New Delhi, 2nd Oct. In view of recent tensions in the Middle East, the Indian government has urged citizens to refrain from traveling to Iran following a massive missile attack launched by Iran on Israel. The government has also advised Indian nationals currently in Iran to remain vigilant and stay in close contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.
The escalation in conflict occurred after Iran launched a barrage of hypersonic missiles towards Israel, which they stated was in retaliation for the recent killings of top Hamas and Hezbollah leaders. The situation has rapidly intensified, prompting the Indian Foreign Ministry to issue a statement expressing concern over the security dynamics in the region.
Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran. Those currently residing in Iran are requested to remain vigilant and stay in contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran.”
Simultaneously, the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv has also cautioned Indians in Israel to exercise caution, avoid unnecessary travel, and stay close to safety shelters. The embassy confirmed that it is actively monitoring the situation and is in regular contact with Israeli authorities to ensure the safety of Indian nationals.
Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar expressed worries regarding the potential for the crisis in the Middle East to expand into a larger regional conflict. He noted, “We are very much concerned at the possibility of a broadening of the conflict, not just what happened in Lebanon, but also, you know, I referred earlier to the Houthis and the Red Sea, and, you know, to some extent, everything that happens between Iran and Israel.”
The missile attacks mark a major escalation in the already strained Israel-Iran relations, which have further deteriorated since the Hamas attacks on October 7. Iran continues to support Hamas and the broader Palestinian cause, while Israel is simultaneously engaged in conflict with the Iran-backed Hezbollah in Lebanon.
