The Indian Women’s Hockey Team is eager to revive its FIH Pro League 2024-25 campaign as it gears up to face Germany. Following a tough start, India is determined to secure crucial points and improve its standing in the competition.
The team kicked off its campaign with an exciting 3-2 victory over England but narrowly lost the rematch in a shootout after a 2-2 draw in regulation time. Against Spain, India put up a strong fight but suffered a 3-4 defeat before falling 1-0 in a tightly contested second encounter.
Currently led by Salima Tete, India sits eighth in the points table with four points from four matches. While the team has displayed flashes of brilliance, consistency remains key as they prepare to take on Germany.
Germany, meanwhile, is also in search of its first win in regulation time. With six matches played, they have endured four regulation losses and one shootout defeat, with their only points coming from a shootout victory. They currently occupy the bottom spot in the standings with three points, making this a crucial fixture for both sides.
Looking ahead to the matches, India’s captain Salima Tete emphasized the importance of capitalizing on key moments. “These games are crucial for us, especially after the close encounters we’ve had. We have shown great effort, but we must be more clinical in converting chances. Germany is a strong side, and we expect a tough challenge, but we are determined to turn things around,” she said.
She further highlighted the team’s preparation, focusing on defense and penalty corner execution. “We have been working hard in training, and everyone is motivated to give their best. We understand what’s at stake and are confident in our ability to rise to the challenge,” she added.
India will face Germany on 21st and 22nd February at 5:15 PM IST.
