The Indian women’s Kho Kho team delivered a commanding performance to defeat South Africa 66-16 in the semifinals of the inaugural Kho Kho World Cup 2025 at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium on Saturday. Their outstanding display of skill and strategy has set up a highly anticipated final showdown with Nepal.
The Women in Blue began on a high note with a stellar Dream Run by Chaithra B, who managed to score 5 points before being tagged out by South Africa’s Sinethemba Mosia. This strong start placed India just behind South Africa’s 8 points at the end of Turn 1.
In Turn 2, Reshma’s exceptional defense helped India dominate, with the score reaching 33-10 in their favor. The Indian women further asserted their control in Turn 3 as Vaishnavi Pawar, Nasreen Shaikh, and Bhilardevi delivered another Dream Run, securing 5 additional points and widening the gap to 38-16.
Turn 4 was the final nail in the coffin for South Africa, with their longest batch lasting only 1 minute and 45 seconds. Nasreen Shaikh and Reshma Rathod’s impressive play sealed the game for India, with the final score at an emphatic 66-16.
India will now take on Nepal, who defeated Uganda 89-18 in their semifinal match, in the final on Sunday, January 19, at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
