New Delhi, 2nd Oct. Two women officers of the Indian Navy, Lieutenant Commanders Roopa A. and Dilna K., on Wednesday embarked on a daring mission to circumnavigate the globe as part of the ‘Navika Sagar Parikrama’ expedition.
The journey, expected to last over eight months, was flagged off from the Naval Ocean Sailing Node at INS Mandovi, Panaji, on the Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) ‘Tarini.’
The mission, covering approximately 40,000 kilometers, aims to advance national scientific research and inspire Indian women by demonstrating courage and breaking barriers. He said the mission pays tribute to the values of resilience and self-belief that Gandhiji stood for.
The CNS praised the two officers for embodying the spirit of modern India and the Navy’s commitment to showcasing the maritime strength of the nation. He also emphasized the importance of the expedition for national research, which will include studies on marine microplastics and exploration of sea mammals.
As Lt. Cdr Roopa and Lt. Cdr Dilna set sail, they carry the hopes of the Indian Navy and women across India, aspiring to redefine the strength and capabilities of ‘Nari Shakti’ (women power).
