Panaji, 3rd Oct. Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff of India, ceremoniously flagged off the INSV Tarini for the Navika Sagar Parikrama II expedition at the Ocean Sailing Node, INS Mandovi, in Goa on Wednesday. This landmark voyage will be undertaken by two women Naval Officers, Lt Cdr Dilna K and Lt Cdr Roopa, marking a historic milestone in India’s maritime history.
The expedition aims to achieve the first-ever global circumnavigation by an Indian crew, covering an impressive 23,400 nautical miles across four continents, three oceans, and three challenging capes over approximately 240 days. The journey will commence from Goa, heading to Fremantle, Australia, then to Lyttleton, New Zealand. The route will continue from Lyttleton to Port Stanley in the Falkland Islands, followed by Cape Town, South Africa, before returning to Goa.
The Ministry of Defence highlighted that this expedition exemplifies India’s commitment to the ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ initiative, showcasing indigenous capabilities in sailboat construction with the INSV Tarini.
In a statement shared on social media, the Indian Navy emphasized the significance of this national mission, stating: “Adm Dinesh K Tripathi #CNS flagged off the historic #NavikaSagarParikrama_II circumnavigation expedition… This national mission aims to script yet another golden chapter in India’s maritime history: #NariShakti #ViksitBharat #MaritimeIndia.”
During the flag-off ceremony, Admiral Tripathi commended the two officers, noting that their journey would serve as an inspiration for every Indian woman to break barriers and redefine the concept of ‘Nari Shakti.’ He added that their adventure would demonstrate that “possibilities in life are infinite, like the oceans themselves.”
The Indian Navy expressed its best wishes for a triumphant voyage, encouraging the duo to spread the message of “Courageous Hearts, Boundless Seas” across the vast oceans of the world.
