Itanagar, 4th Oct. The Indian Army will mark the 62nd Walong Day on October 17, paying tribute to the soldiers who fought in the Battle of Walong during the 1962 Sino-Indian War. The commemoration will begin with a wreath-laying ceremony at the Walong War Memorial, honoring the courage and sacrifice of the brave soldiers.
The month-long events will feature battlefield treks, a car rally, medical and veterinary camps, adventure treks, and a marathon. These activities aim to keep the spirit of the fallen heroes alive while engaging the local community and promoting national unity.
The Indian Army’s gallant defense at Walong, despite logistical challenges in the harsh terrains of Arunachal Pradesh, remains a symbol of bravery. Soldiers from the 6 Kumaon, 4 Sikh, 2/8 Gorkha Rifles, 3/3 Gorkha Rifles, and 4 Dogra regiments fought valiantly, leaving a lasting legacy in India’s military history.
Through these events, the Indian Army aims to foster resilience, unity, and patriotism, while honoring the sacrifices of its heroes. The celebrations invite all to join with renewed enthusiasm in commemorating the indomitable spirit of the soldiers.
