The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Tuesday expressed serious concerns over the arrest and denial of bail for Chinmoy Krishna Das, a prominent Bangladeshi Hindu leader and spokesperson for the Bangladesh Sammilit Sanatan Jagran Jote.

“We have noted with deep concern the arrest and denial of bail to Shri Chinmoy Krishna Das,” the MEA stated.
The MEA urged Bangladesh to uphold the rights of all minorities, including their freedom of peaceful assembly and expression. “We urge Bangladesh authorities to ensure the safety and security of Hindus and all minorities, including their right of freedom of peaceful assembly and expression,” the statement added.

Chinmoy Krishna Das was arrested on Monday and brought before the Chittagong Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday. The court, presided over by Judge Kazi Shariful Islam, denied his bail plea and ordered him to be sent to custody. According to the Dhaka Tribune, the sedition case against Chinmoy is being handled by the Kotwali police station.
Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner Kazi Md Tarek Aziz confirmed that Chinmoy Krishna Das was transported to Chittagong overnight and produced in court on Tuesday morning.
