New Delhi, 13th Sept. India has been announced as the exclusive partner for the European Hydrogen Week, which is set to take place in November 2024. The announcement was made on the second day of the International Conference on Green Hydrogen (ICGH-2024), held at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi. This partnership reflects India’s growing commitment to advancing green hydrogen technology and its role in global decarbonization efforts.
The conference highlighted India’s strategic goals in the green hydrogen sector, including addressing European Union green regulations to boost exports. A significant development during the conference was the signing of a Letter of Intent (LoI) between Chane Terminal from the Netherlands and ACME Cleantech from India for the establishment of ammonia import terminals.
Pankaj Agarwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Power, emphasized India’s focus on navigating EU green regulations to enhance its export capabilities in the green hydrogen sector. The discussions also included perspectives from the EU, Australia, and the Netherlands on the challenges and opportunities within the green hydrogen industry.
Pankaj Jain, Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Dr. Patrick Hartley from CSIRO highlighted the importance of international collaboration to drive industry scale-up and technological advancements in hydrogen. The Netherlands session, chaired by Dr. Abhay Karandikar, provided insights into the country’s comprehensive strategy for global hydrogen advancements.
In a notable address, Professor Ajay K. Sood, Principal Scientific Adviser to the Government of India, projected that the green hydrogen sector could generate over four crore jobs by 2050. This underscores the sector’s potential to drive significant environmental and economic progress.
Saina Nehwal, Indian badminton star and Olympic Medallist, urged the youth to actively engage in the green hydrogen movement, stressing the importance of sustainable practices and their impact on future generations.
The conference also featured the GH2Thon Hackathon, where innovative solutions for green hydrogen technology were presented. Nandlal Gupta from IIT Bombay won the competition, reflecting the event’s commitment to fostering innovation.
With over 100 industry stalls and participation from over 2000 delegates, including international experts and policymakers, ICGH-2024 continues to serve as a pivotal platform for advancing green hydrogen technologies and building global partnerships for a sustainable future.
The conference is organized by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, the Office of the Principal Scientific Adviser, and several other key agencies, with SECI and EY as implementation and knowledge partners.
