New Delhi, 15th Sept. India has launched a major relief operation, called ‘Operation Sadbhav,’ to provide urgent assistance to Myanmar, Laos, and Vietnam, which have been severely impacted by Typhoon Yagi. The typhoon, described as Asia’s most powerful storm of the year, has caused extensive flooding across these countries.
External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar announced that 10 tonnes of relief materials, including dry rations, clothing, and medicines, have been dispatched to Myanmar aboard the Indian naval ship INS Satpura. A military transport aircraft of the Indian Air Force is delivering 35 tonnes of aid to Vietnam and 10 tonnes to Laos.
On social media platform X, Jaishankar stated, “India launches #OperationSadbhav. Demonstrating our solidarity with the people affected by Typhoon Yagi, India is dispatching aid to Myanmar, Vietnam, and Laos.” He detailed the aid shipments, noting, “10 tons of aid including dry rations, clothing, and medicines left for Myanmar onboard @indiannavy INS Satpura today.”
Jaishankar also mentioned the specifics of the aid: “@IAF_MCC is carrying 35 tons of aid comprising water purification items, water containers, blankets, kitchen utensils, and solar lanterns for Vietnam.” Additionally, “10 tons of aid comprising gensets, water purification items, hygiene supplies, mosquito nets, blankets, and sleeping bags are headed for Laos.”
