India, the bronze medalists from the 2023 edition, made a strong start to their Badminton Asia Mixed Team Championships 2025 campaign, sweeping Macau 5-0 in their opening Group D match at the Qingdao Sports Centre Conson Gymnasium in China.
This resounding victory ensured India’s qualification for the knockout stage. They will now face two-time runners-up South Korea in their next Group D match to decide the group winner.
The match began with National Games mixed doubles gold medallists Sathish Karunakaran and Aadya Variyath leading India to a 21-10, 21-9 win over Leong Iok Chong and Ng Weng Chi in the mixed doubles.
Lakshya Sen extended the lead to 2-0 with a 21-16, 21-12 win over Pui Pang Fong in men’s singles, and Malvika Bansod sealed India’s place in the knockout round with a 21-15, 21-9 triumph over Chan Hao Wai in the women’s singles.
The men’s doubles combination of MR Arjun and Chirag Shetty, despite being a makeshift pairing, dispatched Macau’s Pui and Vong Kok Weng 21-15, 21-9.
Gayatri Gopichand and Treesa Jolly then wrapped up the 5-0 scoreline with a dominant 21-10, 21-5 victory in women’s doubles against Ng Weng Chi and Pui Chi Wa.
