New Delhi, 18th Sept. India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has strongly condemned remarks made by Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, concerning the condition of Muslims in India.

In a statement issued on Monday, the MEA labeled Khamenei’s comments as “unacceptable” and “misinformed.”

Khamenei had included India, alongside Gaza and Myanmar, as regions where Muslims are reportedly suffering in a social media message. “We strongly deplore the comments made regarding minorities in India by the Supreme Leader of Iran. These are misinformed and unacceptable.

Countries commenting on minorities are advised to look at their own record before making any observations about others,” the MEA said.

In his message, Khamenei asserted, “We cannot consider ourselves to be Muslims if we are oblivious to the suffering that a Muslim is enduring in Myanmar, Gaza, India, or any other place.” He emphasized the importance of unity among Muslims on the occasion of Islamic Unity Week, meeting with Sunni leaders and praising their role in Iranian society.
