‘India-China Ties Have Seen Some Improvements’: EAM S Jaishankar In Lok Sabha

Published:

External Affiars Minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday said that India-China ties have seen some improvements in the recent past.

Jaishankar made the remark while making a statement in Lok Sabha regarding ‘recent developments in India’s relations with China’.

India-China ties – “abnormal” since April 2020, when the two militaries clashed in parts of eastern Ladakh, leading to fatalities on both sides for the first time in 45 years – have improved recently,” said the external affairs minister.

India remains committed, as highlighted by Mr. Jaishankar, to resolving the border issue with China through bilateral discussions aimed at reaching a fair, reasonable, and mutually agreeable solution.

The External Affairs Minister (EAM) recalled how in April-May 2020, China amassed a large number of troops along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, leading to confrontations with Indian forces at several locations. This situation also caused a disruption in patrolling activities.

“It is to the credit of our armed forces that despite logistical challenges, and the then prevailing Covid situation, they were able to counter-deploy rapidly and effectively,” Jaishakar added.
