New Delhi, 18th Sept. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has given the green light for India’s next lunar mission, Chandrayaan-4.
After the success of Chandrayaan-3, this mission will focus on developing and demonstrating technologies for returning safely to Earth after landing on the Moon, marking a significant step toward India’s long-term space ambitions.
Chandrayaan-4 will showcase key technologies, including safe lunar landing, docking and undocking, and the collection of lunar samples for analysis back on Earth. This mission lays the groundwork for India’s goal of landing humans on the Moon by 2040 and establishing a Bharatiya Antariksh Station by 2035.
ISRO will lead the mission, collaborating with industry and academia to develop all critical technologies indigenously. The mission, with a budget of ₹2104.06 crore, will be completed within 36 months and is expected to boost employment and spur technological advancements in various sectors.
Chandrayaan-4 will enable India to join an elite group of nations capable of lunar sample return missions, enhancing its capabilities for future manned lunar expeditions.
