As the third season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) approaches, Gujarat Giants are gearing up for their home debut at a new venue in Vadodara. The Adani Sportsline-owned franchise held a press event in Ahmedabad on Thursday, attended by Head Coach Michael Klinger, players Harleen Deol and Shabnam Shakil, and Adani Sportsline’s CBO, Sanjay Adesara.

During the event, the team unveiled their jersey for WPL 2025, which kicks off on February 14 and will be played across multiple venues, including Vadodara, Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Mumbai.
Klinger Sets Ambitious Goals
Head Coach Michael Klinger made the team’s ambitions clear, aiming for nothing less than the ultimate prize.
“All the players are really excited. The overseas players will start arriving over the next day or two, and then we can all start working together,” Klinger said.
“We’re here to compete hard and play strong cricket, with the goal of qualifying for the finals. We’re not shying away from it—that’s our aim this season. I believe we have the squad to do it, with some key additions and the valuable experience our players have gained. Six of our players have represented the India A team since the last WPL, with some making their senior team debuts. That exposure to top-level cricket and other franchise leagues will be a huge advantage,” he added.
Harleen Deol Eager for Return
India all-rounder Harleen Deol, who missed the last season due to injury, expressed her excitement to be back, especially in Vadodara, a venue close to her heart.

“I missed the last season because of injury, so I’m even more eager to play this time. I have fond memories of scoring my maiden century in Vadodara, but in cricket, you start from zero every day. Past performances don’t count, so I’m looking forward to the challenge and excited to play in this tournament,” she said.
Shabnam Shakil Credits WPL for Growth
Fresh off her second consecutive U19 World Cup win with India, young pacer Shabnam Shakil highlighted how playing for Gujarat Giants has accelerated her development.
“The exposure to experienced and foreign players has helped me a lot. In season two, I got the opportunity to play four matches, which was a great learning experience. The WPL and Gujarat Giants have provided me with the platform to gain confidence and express myself,” she shared.
Excitement for First-Ever Home Game
Sanjay Adesara, Chief Business Officer of Adani Sportsline, emphasized the excitement of playing in front of a home crowd for the first time.
“Our expectation is simple—Gujarat Giants will give their best and provide a great cricketing experience for fans, not just in Gujarat but across the country and the world. Playing in front of our home crowd for the first time is a special moment for us,” he said.
Gujarat Giants will open their WPL 2025 campaign against defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru on February 14 at the BCA Stadium in Vadodara.
