Govt to Develop 50 Tourist Sites, Promote Medical Tourism, and Extend Mudra Loans for Homestays

New Delhi, 1st Feb. Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in her Union Budget 2025-26 presentation, announced that the government will collaborate with state governments to develop the top 50 tourist sites across the country. This initiative aims to boost tourism and strengthen India’s position as a global travel destination. Additionally, the government will extend Mudra loans to support homestays, further enhancing the hospitality sector.

As part of efforts to promote tourism, Ms Sitharaman highlighted a focus on medical tourism, with the government working alongside the private sector to make India a hub for healthcare tourism. Special attention will also be given to destinations that reflect the life and teachings of Lord Buddha, aiming to attract both domestic and international tourists.
In a significant move for Bihar, financial support will be provided for the development of the Western Kosi Canal. This project is expected to benefit 50,000 hectares in the Mithilanchal region, enhancing agriculture and infrastructure in the area.
