New Delhi, 12th Sept. The Union Cabinet on Wednesday greenlit the “PM Electric Drive Revolution in Innovative Vehicle Enhancement (PM E-DRIVE) Scheme,” aimed at advancing electric mobility across India. With a substantial outlay of ₹10,900 crore over two years, the scheme targets the promotion of electric vehicles (EVs) and the development of critical infrastructure.
Key components of the PM E-DRIVE Scheme include:
Subsidies and Demand Incentives: ₹3,679 crore allocated to support the adoption of e-2Ws, e-3Ws, e-ambulances, e-trucks, and emerging EVs. The scheme will facilitate 24.79 lakh e-2Ws, 3.16 lakh e-3Ws, and 14,028 e-buses.
E-Vouchers for EV Buyers: Introduced to streamline the incentive process, buyers will receive Aadhaar-authenticated e-vouchers for demand incentives at the time of purchase.
E-Ambulances: ₹500 crore earmarked for deploying e-ambulances, enhancing patient transport with improved performance and safety standards.
E-Buses Procurement: ₹4,391 crore allocated for acquiring 14,028 e-buses for public transport agencies, with priority given to replacing older buses through authorized scrapping centers.
E-Trucks Incentives: ₹500 crore designated to promote e-trucks, with incentives available for those using scrapping certificates from approved centers.
Charging Infrastructure: ₹2,000 crore to install 22,100 fast chargers for e-4Ws, 1,800 for e-buses, and 48,400 for e-2Ws/3Ws, addressing range anxiety and expanding public charging facilities.
Modernization of Testing Agencies: ₹780 crore allocated for upgrading testing facilities to support new EV technologies.
The PM E-DRIVE Scheme aims to accelerate EV adoption, reduce environmental impact, and enhance air quality by providing upfront incentives and essential infrastructure.
It supports the domestic EV manufacturing industry and contributes to the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative, promising significant investments and job creation in the EV sector and its supply chain.
