Mumbai, 13th Sept. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, presided over the third meeting of the reconstituted Board of Trade today in Mumbai. During the meeting, Shri Goyal reiterated the government’s dedication to fostering economic growth through strategic partnerships with state governments.
The Minister highlighted that government initiatives are crucial in steering India towards a more transparent, efficient, and sustainable trade environment, ultimately benefiting the national economy.
Shri Goyal introduced the Department of Commerce’s new Jan Sunwai Portal, aimed at enhancing communication between stakeholders and authorities. This portal facilitates direct and transparent interactions for addressing trade and industry-related issues, including on-demand video conferencing and scheduled meetings across various offices and autonomous bodies such as the DGFT and Coffee Board.
Additionally, Shri Goyal launched ECGC’s new online service portal and an upgraded SMILE-ERP system, marking a significant advancement towards paperless and faceless service delivery. These innovations are set to streamline customer services and improve ECGC’s operational efficiency, offering benefits such as faster claim processing and reduced carbon footprint.
The meeting also focused on employment generation across states and bolstering the Department of Commerce’s role in state-level economic development. State Governments of Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Madhya Pradesh presented their achievements in export promotion and ease of doing business. Insights and best practices shared are expected to enhance export potential, particularly in the North East region.
In a significant update for E-Commerce exports, officials from the Central Board of Indirect Taxes & Customs (CBIC) announced that RoDTEP, RoSCTL, and Drawback benefits will now apply to all courier-based exports, with plans to extend these benefits to postal route exports.
The Board of Trade, which includes representatives from the Ministry of Industry, State Governments, industry stakeholders, and trade organizations, serves as a crucial platform for policy recommendations and discussions to support India’s international trade growth.
The session was attended by ministers from ten state governments, including Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Gujarat, Sikkim, and Telangana, along with senior officials from the Department of Commerce and other governmental bodies.
