‘From Collector to Principal Secretary’: Journey of IAS Anurag Jain

Bhopal, 3rd Oct. Anurag Jain, an esteemed IAS officer from the Madhya Pradesh cadre, has been appointed as the Principal Secretary of the state, sparking discussions across various platforms. Born on August 11, 1965, in Gwalior, Jain has always been a bright student. He completed his B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur in 1986, where he was the second topper in his college. After his academic achievements, he decided to pursue civil services, preparing diligently for the UPSC exam. His hard work paid off in 1988 when he succeeded in becoming an IAS officer of the 1989 batch. Jain further enriched his qualifications with an MA in Public Administration from Maxwell University in the USA.

Throughout his career, Jain has served as a collector in various districts, including Mandsaur, Mandla, and Bhopal, earning accolades for his work. He has collaborated with multiple Chief Ministers, having served during the tenures of Digvijay Singh and Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and was the Finance Secretary under Kamal Nath’s government.

Jain also held significant roles in the central government, working in various ministries during his deputation. Notably, he served as the Joint Secretary in the PMO in 2015, where he coordinated efforts across multiple ministries. His impactful contributions to the Jan Dhan Yojana led to his appointment in the Prime Minister’s team.

Recently, he was appointed Secretary of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, where he expedited numerous projects and addressed critical issues, earning him the nickname “Highway Man.” Under his leadership, the ministry witnessed innovative practices that garnered national acclaim, particularly his focus on the PM Gati Shakti project.

Beyond his bureaucratic achievements, Anurag Jain is a multi-talented individual with a passion for sports, particularly tennis. He has won 11 national awards in tennis and has represented Madhya Pradesh in cricket. His diverse interests and commitment to excellence make him a notable figure in both governance and sports.

As Anurag Jain takes on the role of Principal Secretary, there are high expectations for his leadership and dedication to serving the people of Madhya Pradesh. His extensive experience and proven track record promise to bring significant progress to the state.
