New Delhi, 30th Jan. In a miraculous rescue operation, four members of a family were pulled alive from the rubble of a multi-storey building that collapsed in Delhi’s Burari area, 30 hours after the incident. The victims, Rajesh (30), his wife Gangotri (26), their 6-year-old son Prince, and 3-year-old son Ritik, were rescued late Tuesday night and admitted to a nearby hospital.

According to officials, the building’s ceiling slab collapsed onto an LPG cylinder, creating a gap in which the family got trapped. The family survived being buried under the debris, thanks to the gap formed by the falling slab. Rajesh expressed his gratitude to God for their survival.

The building, which had been newly constructed, collapsed on Monday evening, claiming the lives of five people, with 21 others rescued so far. Rescue operations, involving Delhi Police, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Fire Brigade teams, are still ongoing, and authorities expect the operation to continue on Thursday.

Rajesh, in a statement, described the harrowing experience of being trapped under the debris, where he and his family tried calling for help, but their voices couldn’t reach anyone. “We were suffering from hunger and thirst. We fed the children some tomatoes, peanuts, and jaggery. There was a lack of oxygen, and it felt suffocating,” he said. “There was no light, no ventilation, and only the sound of cranes and JCBs above us. We feared the ceiling might collapse further, and if it did, survival would have been impossible.”

In connection with the collapse, Delhi Police have arrested the building’s owner, Yogendra Bhati, and charged him with involuntary manslaughter, along with several other sections of the Indian Penal Code. Authorities have vowed to continue their efforts until all possible survivors are rescued.
