Mumbai, 17th Oct. Various government departments in Maharashtra have promptly removed orders published on their official website after the enforcement of the model code of conduct, following directives from the state chief electoral officer’s office. This action came after the Election Commission of India announced the schedule for the state assembly polls, activating the code on Tuesday.
Additional Chief Electoral Officer Kiran Kulkarni stated, “We have asked departments to remove the Government Resolutions (GRs) uploaded on the government website after 3:30 PM on Tuesday,” which coincided with the announcement by the Chief Election Commissioner regarding the legislative assembly polls.
Although the GRs have been removed from the website, they have not been formally withdrawn. Kulkarni clarified, “Their scrutiny will be done. If the GRs do not violate the model code of conduct, the respective department can upload them again on the state government’s website.”
The GRs typically encompass various matters, including fund sanctions, transfer orders, appointments to different corporations and committees, as well as policy decisions slated for implementation. The Election Commission has scheduled the polls for the 288-member state assembly to be held on November 20, with the counting of votes set for November 23.
