Published:

New Delhi: The Delhi Police has busted a sex racket operating in the Paharganj area, rescuing 23 women, including three minors and ten Nepalese nationals, officials said on Sunday. Seven individuals involved in human trafficking were arrested during the joint operation conducted by teams from the Paharganj Police Station, Shardhanand Marg Police Post, and Himmatgarh Police Post.

According to a senior police officer, the operation was launched based on intelligence inputs and sustained surveillance. The accused allegedly lured women from West Bengal, Nepal, and other states under false pretences, coercing them into prostitution. The women were initially confined in a room in Paharganj’s main market area before being sent to various hotels.

Police teams carried out extensive reconnaissance, deploying decoy customers at suspected locations to confirm the illegal activities. Following verification, coordinated raids were conducted across multiple sites, including hotels, resulting in the rescue of the victims. The women were reportedly being transported on scooters to different locations when police intervened.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Nurshed Alam (21), Md Rahul Alam (22), Abdul Mannan (30), Taushif Rexa, Shamim Alam (29), Md Jarul (26), and Monish (26).

The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law, and further investigations are underway to dismantle the trafficking network. The rescued women have been placed under protective care, and efforts are being made to reunite them with their families.
