Delhi Government Announces Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana: A Landmark Initiative

Published:

New Delhi, December 30, 2024:In a significant move aimed at recognizing the contributions of religious leaders, Delhi Chief Minister and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal announced the launch of the Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana. This scheme seeks to provide an honorarium of ₹18,000 per month to temple priests (pujaris) and Gurudwara granthis in the capital.

“This is happening for the first time in the country,” Kejriwal stated during the announcement. He highlighted the vital role played by priests and granthis in preserving and passing on spiritual and cultural traditions through generations. Despite their dedication, these individuals often face financial struggles as they prioritize community service over personal gain.

The scheme underscores the Delhi government’s commitment to inclusivity and welfare, ensuring that religious leaders receive recognition and support for their contributions. This initiative is expected to offer financial stability to priests and granthis, allowing them to focus on their duties without worrying about the well-being of their families.

The Pujari Granthi Samman Yojana is a pioneering step that reflects a broader vision of respecting and supporting all sections of society. By addressing the needs of religious leaders, the Delhi government aims to set an example for other states to follow.
