Indore, 11th Jan. In a historic move, Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) in Indore passed a resolution on Friday to exclusively use “Bharat” instead of “India” in all its official documents, degrees, and marksheets. The resolution was tabled by a member of the executive council under the concept of “one nation, one name – Bharat.” Vice Chancellor Dr. Rakesh Singhai confirmed that the university would now use “Bharat” in all its communications both within the country and internationally.
Dr. Singhai highlighted that the move aims to restore the country’s original name, Bharat, which has been in use since ancient times. He added that “India” was a name given during British rule for their convenience. DAVV is believed to be the first university in the country to pass such a resolution. Singhai also mentioned that he had been using “Bharat” on his visiting cards in both Hindi and English for years.
The university’s decision has sparked conversations across the country regarding the use of “Bharat” in official matters and its cultural significance.
