Kolkata, 5th Oct. A special CBI court on Friday remanded Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R G Kar Medical College and Hospital, and suspended police officer Abhijit Mondal to 14-day judicial custody. Additionally, another doctor, Ashish Pandey, was placed in three-day custody by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) until October 7.

The CBI, while presenting Ghosh and Mondal before the Alipore court, alleged that they conspired to suppress the rape and murder of a woman medic who was on duty at the hospital. The agency cited forensic findings from the mobile devices of Ghosh and Mondal, requesting their custody for further questioning.

According to CBI officials, Ghosh attempted to mislead the investigation by claiming the medic’s death was a suicide. The agency accused him of tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses, with Mondal allegedly assisting in these efforts.

During the proceedings, the CBI labeled Pandey as one of Ghosh’s “trusted soldiers,” asserting that he had threatened students and accepted bribes for assignments at the hospital. They also alleged that he was involved in running a “sex racket” within the hospital premises. Following his arrest for financial irregularities, CBI officials commenced questioning Pandey regarding these allegations and any potential involvement in the rape-murder case.
