New Delhi, 17th Sept. Home Minister Amit Shah announced on Tuesday that the government will soon introduce a new initiative to safeguard India’s extensive 1.10 lakh km railway network after a series of railway accidents suspected to be sabotage.

Shah’s statement came during a press conference marking 100 days of the BJP-led NDA government’s third term. He said that discussions on railway safety had been held with Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in recent days.

“We are committed to investigating the root causes of these accidents,” Shah said, addressing concerns about potential conspiracies. “If this is a conspiracy, it will not last long. Any gaps in the system will be addressed.”

The Home Minister indicated that a comprehensive scheme involving the CBI, NIA, Railway Police, and the Home Ministry is being developed to enhance railway security and prevent sabotage.

Congress has criticized the government, alleging 38 railway accidents in the first 100 days of the current term and accusing Vaishnaw of downplaying these incidents. In response, Shah emphasized that the Modi government’s tenure has seen significant expansion of the railway network, including the approval of eight new railway line projects aimed at improving travel efficiency.

These new projects are anticipated to create 4.42 crore human days of employment, Shah added.
