Chandigarh, 12th Sept. The Congress party on Thursday released two more lists of candidates for the Haryana assembly elections on Thursday, fielding seven new nominees. Among the notable candidates are former MLA Naresh Selwal, who will contest from the Uklana (SC) seat, and journalist Sarva Mitra Kamboj, recently joined by the party, who will run from Rania.
With these announcements, the Congress has now declared candidates for 88 of the 90 assembly seats. The fourth and fifth lists were released on the final day for filing nominations.
In the fourth list, the party named Parimal Pari for Ambala Cantt, Sachin Kundu for Panipat Rural, Satbir Dublain for Narwana (SC), and Rohit Nagar for Tigaon. The fifth list included Selwal from Uklana (SC) and Jasbir Singh from Narnuad.
Sarva Mitra Kamboj, who joined Congress in the presence of former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda and state unit chief Udai Bhan, will contest from Rania in Sirsa district. Kamboj’s candidacy follows the exit of Ranjit Chautala, who left the BJP after being denied a ticket and previously represented Rania as an Independent MLA.
The Congress had earlier announced candidates in its third list, including MP Randeep Surjewala’s son, Aditya Surjewala, for Kaithal. The party has faced internal disagreements over a potential alliance with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which has since released several candidate lists of its own.
Previously, the Congress named 32 candidates, featuring prominent figures such as Hooda from Garhi Sampla-Kiloi, Udai Bhan from Hodal, and wrestler Vinesh Phogat from Julana. The party has renominated all 28 of its incumbent MLAs and continues to finalize its strategy for the upcoming elections.
Haryana will go to the polls on October 5, with vote counting scheduled for October 8.
