Coal Production in India Grows 5.85% in FY 2024-25

New Delhi, 1st Oct. India’s Ministry of Coal has reported a 5.85% increase in coal production for FY 2024-25 compared to the same period last year. In September 2024, coal production reached 68.94 million tons (MT), surpassing the 67.26 MT produced in the same month last year, marking a 2.49% rise.

Cumulatively, production up to September 2024 amounted to 453.01 MT, a significant increase from 427.97 MT during the same period in FY 2023-24.

Coal dispatch also saw a boost, with 73.37 MT dispatched in September 2024, reflecting a 4.35% growth from last year’s 70.31 MT. The cumulative dispatch up to September 2024 reached 487.87 MT, up 5.54% from 462.27 MT during the same period last year.

In terms of stockpiling, coal reserves have grown substantially. As of September 29, 2024, the coal stock at DCB was 33.46 MT, representing a remarkable 51.07% growth compared to 22.15 MT recorded on the same date in 2023.

The Ministry of Coal continues to push for increased coal production and improved dispatch efficiency to meet India’s growing energy demands, reinforcing energy security and moving closer to self-sufficiency in coal supply.
