Amaravati: Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Monday made a fervent appeal to the people of the state to adopt healthier lifestyles by reducing the intake of salt, oil, and sugar, and embracing regular physical activity to combat the growing burden of lifestyle diseases.

Addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat, CM Naidu advised families of four to follow a monthly consumption rule of 0.6 kg of salt, 2 litres of edible oil, and 3 kg of sugar, warning that excessive consumption was a key contributor to preventable diseases. “Make it a thumb rule… many diseases can be controlled this way,” he said, highlighting the urgency to drastically cut down salt intake in particular.
He also recommended 30 minutes of daily walking, and half an hour of prayer or meditation, irrespective of religion, to lead a stress-free life and maintain physical and mental well-being.
Top Health Burdens and Pilot Digital Initiative
CM Naidu cited cardiovascular diseases as the leading health concern in the state, affecting 18-22% of the population, followed by diabetes mellitus (12–15%), respiratory illnesses (10–12%), and other chronic conditions including cancer and kidney disease, collectively accounting for nearly 80% of the disease burden in Andhra Pradesh.
In a bid to revolutionize healthcare delivery, CM Naidu announced the launch of a pilot project—Digital Health Nerve Centre (DiNC)—on June 15 in Kuppam. The initiative aims for 100% Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) creation and integration of all electronic health records.
Through the DiNC platform, citizens will receive digital health advice via a dedicated app, access telemedicine consultations, and benefit from predictive analytics for early disease identification. The system will also issue alerts for missed antenatal checkups and enable preventive care outreach.
The first phase of DiNC will cover five mandals in Kuppam over three months, followed by an expansion to 31 mandals in Chittoor. Based on performance metrics, it will be scaled up to all 26 districts within 26 months. The project is being developed in partnership with Tata MD and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
Global Medi-City Planned in Amaravati
CM Naidu further unveiled plans for a mega global Medi-City in Amaravati, the state’s greenfield capital, offering space to leading global hospitals and enabling health tourism.
The project aligns with the central government’s plan to develop 25 Medi-Cities across India under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Andhra Pradesh has offered 200 acres in Amaravati for the venture. Naidu added that Qatar, which has committed $10 billion in investment for India’s Medi-City initiative, will also be invited to participate in the Amaravati project if willing.
