New Delhi, 22nd Oct. Union Minister Jitendra Singh underscored the importance of cleanliness as a continuous process requiring collective participation during a cleanliness campaign in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) on Monday. He stated that “Swachchata Hi Sewa” is not merely a campaign but a nationwide movement that aligns with Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of cleanliness and dignity for all.
Leading the initiative alongside P K Mishra, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, and other senior officials, Singh noted that the drive goes beyond physical cleanliness to foster a mindset of responsibility toward one’s surroundings. “Cleanliness is not just a one-time effort but a continuous process,” he asserted, reaffirming the government’s commitment to the Swachh Bharat Mission.
Singh urged the PMO staff to maintain high cleanliness standards, emphasizing that government offices should serve as role models in the national Swachh Bharat campaign. He commended various ministries and departments for their dedication to the initiative, which is part of a broader national drive aimed at reinforcing cleanliness as a way of life.
Reflecting on the activities launched on Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary on October 2, Singh highlighted the significance of Gandhi’s vision of cleanliness. The minister actively participated in sanitation efforts during a major clean-up drive on that day, encouraging citizens and officials to take ownership of their surroundings.
The Swachhata Hi Sewa Campaign 4.0 aims to inspire a clean and healthy India, with substantial progress reported, including the clearing of over 63.48 lakh square feet of space and generating ₹53.6 crore from scrap disposal, according to V Srinivas, Secretary of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG). This campaign involves multiple government institutions and ministries, aiming to instill cleanliness habits in every citizen and work toward a sustainable future.
