New Delhi, 17th Sept. Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal, declared that cleanliness has evolved into a significant people’s movement as he led the Swachhata pledge for the officers and staff of his ministry. This event was part of the ongoing “Swachhata Hi Seva 2024” campaign, a 15-day initiative aimed at reinforcing the importance of cleanliness and sanitation across India.

Addressing the attendees, Goyal praised the transformative impact of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, which he said has inspired millions and is shaping India’s future. He noted that it has been a decade since the launch of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, first announced by PM Modi from the Red Fort. “Today, we witness the remarkable changes brought by this campaign,” Goyal stated. “Toilets have been built in homes, villages are now open defecation-free, and public awareness has increased to the point where people now hesitate to litter.”
Goyal traced the roots of the cleanliness movement back to Mahatma Gandhi, who held cleanliness in high regard, even above religion. He emphasized that PM Modi has continued this legacy, translating Gandhi’s ideals into actionable policies that drive the nation towards a cleaner future.
In his address, Goyal urged the officers and staff of the Ministry to contribute actively to the cleanliness mission. “This is a unique opportunity for us to play our part in this national cause. Our collective efforts will help create a better future for our children and elevate our nation,” he said.
The event also marked the 100th day of Prime Minister Modi’s third term in office. Goyal highlighted that the Prime Minister’s vision and commitment are leading the country towards a brighter future, with recent efforts focused on improving governance and building on past successes.
The Swachhata pledge event saw participation from ministry officials and distinguished guests from the United States and Egypt. Additionally, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) organized a blood donation camp at Vanijya Bhawan, further demonstrating the Ministry’s commitment to public health and national cleanliness.
The ongoing “Swachhata Hi Seva 2024” campaign underscores the government’s dedication to maintaining and promoting a cleaner India, with an emphasis on collective responsibility and community involvement.
