Chhattisgarh Forest Fire Rages, Officials Accused of Negligence

Published:

Bhanupratappur- A massive fire has engulfed forests in Chhattisgarh’s Bhanupratappur region, causing severe damage to flora and fauna. As summer sets in, incidents of wildfires have surged, but forest officials have been accused of negligence in responding to emergencies.

Locals allege that forest officials, including Bhanupratappur Range Officer Mohan Netam, neither remain present at their headquarters nor respond to calls about fire incidents. On Monday evening, a fire broke out in the forests of Chavela village and Bansla hills, but the department remained unaware for hours. Despite having fire detection systems, authorities failed to control the blaze in time, endangering wildlife and natural resources.

With the rising number of wildfires, wild animals are increasingly straying into human settlements for safety. The forest department claims to have deployed adequate personnel and launched awareness campaigns, warning of strict action against those responsible for igniting forest fires.
