Hyderabad, 14th Jan. Hyderabad witnessed heightened political tension on Tuesday as Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K.T. Rama Rao (KTR) was placed under house arrest along with six other party leaders, including Harish Rao and R.S. Praveen Kumar. A heavy police presence was deployed outside KTR’s residence in Gachibowli following the arrest of BRS MLA Padi Koushik Reddy on Monday.

The move comes amidst an ongoing investigation by the Telangana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) into alleged financial irregularities in the Formula E race held in Hyderabad in February 2023. KTR has vehemently denied the charges, calling them politically motivated and an abuse of legal processes.

Speaking to ANI, KTR stated, “The ACB’s case against me is frivolous and baseless. I was questioned for over seven hours without substantial evidence. This is a politically driven vendetta by the Telangana Chief Minister to suppress opposition voices.”

The Telangana High Court on Tuesday dismissed a petition by KTR seeking to quash the corruption charges. Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has also filed an enforcement case information report (ECIR) under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) against KTR and others.

KTR emphasized his commitment to fighting the charges legally, asserting, “This is not just a fight for myself but against the misuse of power to suppress political opposition. I hope justice will prevail.”
