Boxing has been confirmed as part of the sports programme for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. The decision was approved by the 144th International Olympic Committee (IOC) Session, held in Costa Navarino, Greece.

The sport was initially left out of the LA28 lineup due to governance concerns surrounding its former governing body, the International Boxing Association (IBA). However, following the IOC’s withdrawal of IBA’s recognition on June 22, 2023, the pathway was cleared for boxing’s return—provided a new governing body was established.
The IOC Executive Board, acting on recommendations from the Olympic Programme Commission, approved the inclusion of boxing after World Boxing was provisionally recognised as the sport’s new International Federation. This newly recognized organisation currently represents 88 National Federations across five continents and was deemed to meet governance and integrity requirements.
With this confirmation, boxing will continue its long-standing Olympic legacy in Los Angeles 2028, ensuring the sport remains a key part of the Games.
