Gopalganj, 4th Jan. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Saturday launched 72 development projects and schemes worth ₹140 crore in Gopalganj district as part of his ongoing ‘Pragati Yatra.’ The CM inaugurated a community center during a function organised by Jeevika Didis in Pakri village. Jeevika Didis, members of self-help groups (SHGs), are part of the Jeevika project aimed at empowering rural women.

Kumar also reviewed infrastructure projects, including the construction of a 3km Mirganj and 5.7km Bairia bypasses, during an inspection of proposed sites. Later, he chaired a meeting at the district collectorate to evaluate ongoing government schemes like the Bihar Student Credit Card Scheme, Chief Minister Nishchay Self-Help Allowance Scheme, and irrigation initiatives.

Addressing concerns raised by elected representatives, the CM instructed officials to expedite the distribution of sugarcane price increases for farmers. He also announced plans to build a bridge over the Daha river and develop the Maa Thawe temple area, along with a four-lane road project from Bankarpur to Dumariya Ghat.

However, during the visit, the CPI-ML (Liberation) alleged that several of its leaders were placed under house arrest by the local police in response to the party’s criticism of state government policies, especially regarding the BPSC aspirants. The opposition party accused the ruling NDA government of stifling dissent and undermining democratic rights.
