Mandsaur, 12th Oct. An accused in the massive mephedrone drug seizure case in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, allegedly shot himself in the foot to evade “tough police grilling” before surrendering in Mandsaur, according to officials.

The Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) and the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) had, on October 5, seized 907.09 kg of mephedrone along with raw materials valued at ₹1,814 crore from a factory in Bagroda, Bhopal.

Premsukh Patidar, also known as the ‘phony doctor,’ had been on the run since the drug bust. On Friday, he surrendered at the Afzalpur police station in Mandsaur with a gunshot wound to his left thigh, reportedly self-inflicted with a country-made pistol. “He is the fourth person to be arrested in this case,” Mandsaur Superintendent of Police Abhishek Anand stated.

A weapon was recovered from Patidar, who has been admitted to the district hospital. “The pistol appears to be illegal. Patidar shot himself in an attempt to avoid intensive police questioning,” added the SP.

Patidar is suspected to be a partner of another accused in the case, Harish Anjana, according to police sources.
