New Delhi, 25th Sept. Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday celebrated the completion of ten years of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, lauding the collective resolve of 140 crore Indians in transforming the nation into a global manufacturing and innovation powerhouse. In a blog post, PM Modi reflected on the significant milestones achieved under the flagship program, stating, “The impact of Make in India shows that Bharat is unstoppable.”
Highlighting the initiative’s success, PM Modi praised the vast talent pool of the nation for making it a roaring success. “Each of you is a pioneer, visionary, and innovator, whose tireless efforts have fuelled the success of Make in India and made our nation the focus of global attention,” he wrote.
PM Modi emphasized that the initiative, launched ten years ago, has delivered remarkable results, notably in the manufacturing and export sectors. He pointed out that the program’s influence can be seen across various industries, including those where India previously had little presence.
Citing specific examples, the Prime Minister noted the exponential growth of mobile manufacturing, where India went from having only two mobile manufacturing units in 2014 to over 200 today. “Our mobile exports have surged from ₹1,556 crore to ₹1.2 lakh crore, an astounding 7,500 per cent increase. Today, 99 per cent of mobile phones used in India are made in India, and we’ve become the second-largest mobile manufacturer globally,” PM Modi remarked.
PM Modi also spotlighted advancements in sectors like steel, semiconductors, renewable energy, and electric vehicles. India has become a net exporter of finished steel, increased semiconductor investments to over ₹1.5 lakh crore, and quadrupled its renewable energy capacity in the past decade. He further mentioned the rise of India’s electric vehicle industry, now worth $3 billion.
In the defence sector, PM Modi highlighted the sharp increase in exports, from ₹1,000 crore to ₹21,000 crore, with Indian-made equipment now being exported to over 85 nations. Indigenous production of advanced trains like Vande Bharat and missiles like BrahMos also carry the ‘Make in India’ label.
Describing the initiative as a “game-changer,” PM Modi credited the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) schemes for driving investments and job creation, and hailed India’s growing presence in the global supply chain. He also praised India’s youth, or Yuva Shakti, for their contributions to the country’s burgeoning start-up ecosystem.
In a call to action, the Prime Minister encouraged young Indians to join the Make in India movement, asserting that the momentum is in India’s favour. “Zero defect should be our mantra,” PM Modi concluded, urging excellence and perseverance in the nation’s ongoing growth journey.
